Romping Around in Style

This past weekend it was me and the Princess again running around DC having tons of fun...shopping, eating out, sightseeing, meeting up with friends, etc.  By the way, with my son's repeated absences I've officially come to terms with the fact that my son is a mini adult who only needs my presence for making sneaker purchases and discussing the latest hip hop collaborations, but otherwise he can do with out... I'm so totally cool with it. I understand that this is an inherent phase for a parent of a teenage boy.  Anyways, back to the issue at hand... this romper, my Princess and this past weekend... I absolutely love this piece.  It's three years old and from my design favorite, BCBG MaxAzria.  I gifted it to myself as one of many birthday gifts three years ago and I try to wear it at least once every summer b/c I love it sooooo much.  It just works for so many reasons!!  It's versatile, stylish and luxurious but it's super easy to wear and can be really practical all at the same time.  Very much an example of the popular term, casual chic. It's also great for transition from summer into early fall because it's shorts but long sleeved in a dark navy color.  More importantly, this is a perfect piece for an on the go mom, like me.

I've said it many times and I'll say it many more, just because you are a busy parent does not mean you have to compromise your style or taste!  You will NEVER, EVER catch me in some mom jeans, frumpy sweats or Kmart like coordinates, I don't care how many kids I have or what is going on! While you do at times have to be more practical, b/c I do understand it can't always be glitz, glamour and 5-inch heels, it never has to be bad taste and fashion! This is one of those pieces that allow me to be cute, stylish and hip but comfortable and reasonable for romping around (pun intended) and fun misadventures with the kiddies!  For all the mommy honeeyz and daddy gentz, what pieces do you migrate to for comfort without compromising your style and swag?? Do share!
The Princess, scrolling through her iPhone, as usual.  She's been training seriously for track so she's super buff this summer! Look at those guns! LOL.  She's still a cutie pie sweetheart though! Love her.
We went to Sticky Rice on the popular and evolving H Street in DC. The food is delicious..this particular dish, "Sticky Balls," is my hands down favorite!
And you can't go to Sticky Rice and not order some kinda roll...this was delicious
Sesame Chicken with noodles...yummy
Romper: BCBG MaxAzria; Flat Python Print Sandals: Dolce Vita; Bag: L.A.M.B.; Necklace: F21; Watch: Marc by Marc Jacobs; Gold Bamboo Earrings: My Own

The Power of Love and Support - Custom Fly Kidz

Customized lime green low top Converse Chuck Taylors with color rhinestones, ribbons and buttons. Custom made girls tutu with ribbon and button adoration.  Styles by Yvonda!
My talented and creative cousin, Yvonda, just recently launched her custom design apparel and accessory business and I was so impressed that I wanted to feature her here on Milk and Honeeyz ASAP.  She specializes in custom designs of children’s clothing and shoes (her specialty being girls' custom tutus and Converse), but is capable of doing pretty much anything in terms of style and customization of select pieces of apparel, shoes and accessories.  I’m pretty sure she can execute any theme or design you have in mind, even if you don’t see it here.  These pics are merely just representative of some of the designs she has completed and sold.  Her designs are excellent for birthday parties, theme parties, holidays or for just making sure your little bambino is stunting on the other lame kids up in the daycare! LOL. I can’t tell you how much I want to have another baby girl just to buy these Chucks and tutus, but that would be sort of nutty right?? However, as soon as I decide to pop another baby out, I’ll be at her door step copping all the designs I can because they are sooooo stinking cute!!!! Anyways, be sure to place your orders and share the information with your fellow honeeyz and baby dads (I joke) so they can swag their kiddies out... I mean it's only right.  You aren't fly if you think you are but your kids are not!

From Basic to Whoa! Custom high top Converse Chuck Taylors with pearl adornments, ribbons and buttons! These are my favorites!
For orders and inquiries about designs and prices, Yvonda can be reached directly at yromeo23@gmail.com.  Prices for shoe customization starts at only $15!! Tutu designs range from $25-45, depending on length and size, while custom designs for flip flops start at only $10! If you guys (and honeeyz) have any other questions or need any information, feel free to reply to this post or contact Yvonda or myself (leonnette29@yahoo.com) directly!  Happy shopping for your babies, nieces, nephews, cousins, god children, et!!!

Above: Custom Mini Tutu with mixed colors, ribbons and buttons.  Below: Totally glammed out red hightop Chucks with a mixture of patterned (hearts, starts, etc) and colored gems, ribbons and buttons.

Now, how about a full glass of Milk to go with that Honeey (I gotta do it):

I'm supporting and plugging my cousin's initiative because she is talented, I love her product and the quality, and because I have the platform to do it and should do it.  It’s shameful how little we support one another, particularly when they are doing something constructive, creative, and positive.  I see it all too much where businesses and initiatives fall to the wayside b/c of the lack of support, particularly from our own communities and friends and family.  Supporting doesn’t necessarily mean you have to personally indulge or make a financial investment, but it could be simply just sharing the information, encouraging with words, complimenting, offering an exchange of services that could benefit you and the new business owner, etc.  I often see where there is mess, gossip, lies, negative opinions and polls about nonsense, people jump to get involved, comment, share, or even give a "LOL," which in turn is a form of support.  But yet when it's something we should be supporting we are slow to move or act.  I encourage and challenge you all to celebrate and uplift and support each other.  There’s nothing like a woman who is about her business who recognizes her talents and blessings and puts them to use in a positive and creative way, like Yvonda, who works extremely hard in the medical field while raising 3 beautiful kids (and keeping them fly too) and now doing something creative and smart.  Lets learn to celebrate and acknowledge that type of person and effort rather than the other mess we tend to fall for.

With that in mind, my best friend and I actually cofounded a social organization called Power Chicks, LLC back in 2009 where we actually hold events and get togethers for the sole purpose of celebrating women, discussing hot topics, sharing empowering information and forcing them to recognize their own efforts and accomplishments, no matter how "small" or short.  Women can not only be self deprecating and unappreciative of ourselves and all that we do and add to our friends and family, but we are slow to celebrate and uplift one another.  We also often are missing or withholding vital information that can be the difference between us elevating to the next level (whether if it’s about relationships, finances, growth, parenting, career, or what have you). We have to teach ourselves, our friends and family, and our children (future leaders and innovators) the importance of celebrating others, particularly those in our community and network, and loving ourselves.  Complimenting, supporting and celebrating is a form of learned behavior so it takes some getting used to, but you keep at it  until it's like second nature...the same way as some people find gossiping, hating, and lying to be a part of what they just do!!  Love and support is power...let's tap into it!

Happy 13th Birthday Princess Cierra!

I'm wishing my Princess, Cierra Brianna, a happy 13th birthday today!! I don't know who is more excited about this day?? But I know I'm really amped up about it! It's so mind blowing to me to know that this little lady is now officially a teenager (either I'm getting old which is not obvious at all or I started too young, yea probably the latter)! It seems like just yesterday she was born, weighing in at only 2 lbs 12 oz. with the fears that her prematurity be the blame for lasting medical and developmental problems.  But she proved them all wrong (although she still spends a lot of her time in the blonde girls' wig...lol).   Aside from being a major crybaby, spoiled brat earlier on in life and then later transitioning into the cutest little, sweetest little, artistic little airhead we know, she had absolutely no complications or issues once she picked up some weight.  BUT GOD.

Today, she is a distinguished honor's student (this past marking period which ended about 2 weeks ago she earned 5 A's and 2 B's...that's my baby), informal animal rights activist (PETA here she comes...dragging her momma's blood splashed furs, leathers, and pony hair pieces with her),  star athlete, hard working, helpful, respectful, style savvy (see her style feature HERE) and genuine little sweet pea!  Her brother consistently refers to her as a goody goody (I always reply for her to keep at which is really code for, whatever you do don't wreak havoc on my life like your brother....sweet baby Jesus).  I love this little girl more than words can say for the obvious reason (she is mine) but also b/c she sincerely makes me better.  I've had to literally learn the importance of being more sensitive, considerate, hesitant, and compassionate just from being her mother and now I'm a better woman.  I've worked extremely hard because I want her to see the value of hard work, to understand that any and everything is doable, but also as a soon to be woman, that we too can make the world go around and if that's what she wants to do, she doesn't have to ever compromise her ambition, career choices and desires simply b/c she is a woman.  I'm forever grateful for her and extremely proud of her and happy to have shared the last 13 years with her!

Happy birthday to my Princess!!! In her words, "we gonna do it big" this weekend! :-)
The lashes get me every time. Whatever she wants... :-)

Tween Spirit

You honeeyz should all be pretty familiar with my Princess, Cierra Brianna. And if you're not, you will be now b/c this post is all about her and her style! I love her like no other.  She is my sweet pea, my mini-me, my love.  She has her own little style thing going on that I thought was worthy of her own individual post.  She is 12-years-old and her style is ever evolving.  I think it's so cute to watch her grow into her own, although it's starting to cost me b/c she's way off the chain as of late.  I think it's extremely important to allow your kids an outlet to express themselves and become creative, independent individuals.  I love collaborating with her on what to wear, what NOT to wear and using some of these moments as teaching opportunities and ways to build her confidence and correct some short comings that I may notice.

She absolutely loves jewelry and sneakers.  Her hair is also one of her favorite accessories.  She's not too much into brands and labels, but more so certain styles and colors, which I love b/c she's not caught up in the materialistic aspect of things.  In addition to being a young fly girl (yea we start wayyy early), she is a distinguished honor student, animal rights activist (can you imagine the arguments I have with this child about all my fur and pony hair... sigghh), sports star and the sweetest most loving and caring little thing I know.

Anyways, take a look at her style from this weekend...it's all her own and super diverse (dressy, punk rock, colorful, sophisticated, young, fun, mature, trendy and everything in between).  Oh, and don't forget, especially you Power Chick mommies and Super Hero daddies, to share your parenting approach when it comes to your kids' style and fashion! What's a go and what's an absolute NOT when it comes to your kids and what they want to wear?
