PSA: Refocusing Milk and Honeeyz and Giving You a Little More Milk with the Honeey!!

When I initially launched Milk and Honeeyz, and even in my blog description, it was always clear to me that Milk and Honeeyz would be a platform for my love of fashion, clothes, beauty, hair and just good old fun...but not exclusively.  It was equally important to me that M&H not serve as just a fashion blog but more so as a lifestyle blog where we did the fashion thing but also brought more substance to the table, because there is so much more to me and what I have to offer, share and learn than fashion alone. The truth is that I’m a progressive, ambitious, responsible and determined young woman who just happens to do it all in a pair of 5-inch heels.  The heels and the fashion are the supplement and happenstance but the core of who I am is way more than an accessory or piece of clothing.  Fashion is a form of artistic expression that I've always been genuinely in love with and that has always been an outlet and a resource for many things, but let’s face it, peplums, heels, and designer bags are not a cure for cancer or a way to end racism or a resolution on how to balance multiple responsibilities or address many other social issues and real dilemmas that we deal with on a day to day! And they certainly don't help me raise my kids or maintain a successful career!

With that said, the past few months here at Milk and Honeeyz has been hugely devoted to my love of fashion and artistic expression, which is fine and good and pretty consistent with a major part of my Milk and Honeeyz mantra.  I’ve even done fairly well with making sure to add messages and addressing more substantive topics within my fashion posts and giving you a little milk here and there. I totally get that the blogosphere, particularly the younger fashinonista crowd, is way more visual than anything so posting pics goes a long way in building and maintaining an audience and loyal following and obviously, building a following is a huge priority for anyone who sets out to create a successful blog.  But now that I’ve been giving in to all of that, it's important for me to get back to the roots and foundation of what I set out to do with Milk and Honeeyz and that’s to create an interactive lifestyle blog where we share and discuss everything, including but not limited to fashion, that is going on in our world, pop culture, society, and communities…good, bad, fun and serious. Going forward, my goal and objective is to make sure that I give you boys, girls and Honeeyz the milk with the honeey! Being fly and fabulous is only a reality if you are as experienced, educated, aware, involved, and concerned about what's going on around you as you are about how many shoes and bags you've acquired.  I'm hoping you Honeeyz will continue to follow us as we transition into a well balanced, sophisticated, fun and fabulous virtual magazine that gives you what you WANT and a little of what you NEED... the Milk AND the Honeey!

My hair + Michael Flagg + The Wand = Pure Bliss

I always get questions about my hair b/c my stylist, Michael Flagg of Bliss Elements Salon and Spa, is a beast (heyyy Mike)!!  More recently, I've been wearing my hair in a curly/wavy style that was achieved with one of Michael's own creations, "The Wand."  I know you honeeyz may have seen a commercial version of a similar tool but Mike actually created and designed this tool decades ago and unfortunately for he and I, he was discouraged by a trip to a patent attorney back in the day and never had the wand patented before others swooped in and duplicated the tool.  At that time, I was in high school somewhere dreaming of becoming an attorney but boy do I wish for their sake and mine that I was out of school and practicing b/c I certainly would have helped them patent the design and we'd all be rolling in the dough right about now!!! LOL.

Anyways, the wand is a hot tool with a cylinder type shape that is used to create a wave/curl/spiral type pattern with heat.  The look is similar to a wet and wavy style but super soft with lots of body.  You don't have to use a lot of product or worry about the crunchy dry look that sometimes comes with the traditional wet and wavy or rod set looks.  I decided to capture the unique process in photos during my trip on Friday so I could share with you honeeyz.  Be sure to check out the Bliss site where you can buy Pure Bliss products (ummm yes, honeeyz Bliss has their own product line which is created and produced by Mike and his wife, Sherell...amazing).  The products are genius! Check out the process below....

**First, I start out with a great wash, conditioner and then I'm under the steamer for 15-20 mins.  In addition to Pure Bliss products, Bliss Elements uses Kera Care (which I typically use for my wash and conditioner, unless I need a particular treatment) and Paul Mitchell products.
Hey Steve!!! :-)  Steve is a style assistant at Bliss and he gives some of the best washes and massages out there! Sweet Baby Jesus!!!! LOL.
As most of you honeeyz know, I'm 4 years relaxer free so when I get my hair washed it curls right on up!

**Next up, I get a fabulous blow dry and I'm back to straight hair without the chemicals.

Nailed It Again!!!

A few weeks ago...
As most of you honeeyz know, my manicures are one of my favorite accessories and also 1 of 25 "you look like a million bucks must haves."  I love to have fun with my nails and do something funky from time to time to keep things exciting!  Like many women, OPI brand is one of my favorite brands because it not only boasts great quality, but it has one of the most extensive lines in terms of color selection and designs.  But even still, I have to say I prefer Essie brand above all.  The only issue with Essie, which is actually made by OPI, is that it doesn't have as much of an extensive color selection but their quality far surpasses OPI.  They are a little more sophisticated and conservative with their colors but no one does a muted, or matte, or dark polish like Essie! I love it! And with age, I honestly prefer the more sophisticated colors that aren't as loud and ghetto fabulous as others.  What I absolutely can NOT do is the cheap corner store brands b/c as far as I'm concerned you can definitely tell the difference in the finish.  My manicurist tends to disagree with this theory and she sometimes tries to convince me to just grab any brand provided it has a color that I like. I never do. I can't. She says that it is more about the color than the brand of the polish that dictates the finish.  Again, I disagree.  At my hair salon, Bliss Elements, they carry CND's shellac polish in addition to OPI in their nail bar.  Shellac and other nail gel polishes (Axxium by OPI, Gelaxy, Nexium, Gelish, etc) are all the rage as of late.  Gel nail colors are intended to last longer, usually up to 2 weeks without chipping.  Many people love them but some complain that some brands don't last as long as they say and some people complain that it takes too much time and process and product to get the gel off.  I actually use a crystal acrylic overlay on my nails because I gnaw them down to nothingness when in their natural state.  The crystal overlay is followed by my polish choice and then a gel coat.  Crystal is less harsh and potent than straight acrylic.  It also looks way more natural on top of the nails, like a true overlay rather than artificial nails, which I really don't like.  The crystal overlay is a little more expensive but well worth it.  Anyways,  here are a few of my designs and color choices of  recent months.  I'll try to keep you honeeyz and guys updated with my nail fun and different designs and ideas I come across in my researching and perusing of sites, magazines, and other people's fingers (lol).   I hope you are willing to share your nail and manicure creativity with the rest of us honeeyz!!! We need ideas and collaboration!!!
